5 Gentle Habits for Easier First Steps in the Morning

Sunday Massage Roller

For a lot of people with sore heels, the very first steps in the morning hurt the most. Here are five simple habits that many people find make mornings easier.

1. Stretch before you stand

Before you get out of bed, gently point and flex your feet and draw circles with your toes for a minute. It's a gentle way to wake your feet up.

2. Keep supportive footwear by the bed

Padding across a hard floor barefoot is tough on sore heels. Keep a pair of supportive slippers or slides where your feet land.

3. Roll it out

A few minutes of rolling the sole of your foot over a massage roller is a simple, satisfying routine, morning or night.

4. Try a night splint

A night splint holds your foot in a gentle stretch while you sleep. Many people find it makes their first steps more comfortable. Check with your doctor or podiatrist first if you have circulation problems or diabetes.

5. Choose your shoes wisely

A night in stilettos or completely flat sandals can leave you paying for it the next morning. A low wedge with arch support, like our dressy wedges or everyday wedges, is a kinder choice.
